Double Taps Hawaiian Style

I tried a different kind of fishing on my Summer vacation.
Not very much casting involved and these are certainly not the four weight rods I fish. Seven hours of driving around in 3000 feet of water and not so much as look. Nature calls and during my visit to the head, what do I hear but the a screaming sound coming from the back of the boat.
Fish on! 40 Minutes of trophy wife provided Gatorade, re-learning how to reel a level winder, and, as our Captain put it, "getting our a$$es handed to us" we saw what was on the end of our line. We had agreed to tag any Marlin caught but that wasn't what took our lure. I'll spare you the grisly details but let's just say that this is a blood sport and the trophy wife (who was filming the event) was quite surprised when the Captain drew a .38 and put two in Mr. Ahi's head.

ESPN's Don Barone: TunaMaster Skeet

ESPN's Don Barone has been fishing again. This time he takes his "butt replacement doctor" and 2007 BASS Angler of the year (AOY) Skeet Reese on a tuna fishing trip.
Picture this: I'm sitting on the rail/facing/whatever the front of the boat is called, and in my hand (running parallel to the back of the boat), is this fully-loaded tackle thing with a fairly peeved 30-pound fish swimming away as fast as it can from the exact spot where I'm sitting, feet dangling, just minding my own non-fishing-at-the-moment business.
And Skeet then lets GO of the rod.

Mac, too far away to save what he calls "his hips" (implanted in me, mind you) can only stare.
Santini and the Captain are frozen in space — I, unfortunately, am not.

Somehow, in a momentary alignment of the fish planets, the striper seems to sense the AOY isn't holding the stick anymore. And that in some stroke of luck the MOY (Moron of the Year) is now controlling his bass fate, and so it pops into fish fifth gear, which completely swings me around, stands me straight up, and frankly almost over the damned Skip-A-Dory side.

Behind me, Skeet is laughing, running around looking for a camera. I manage to get my other hand around and onto the rod at about the same time the fish realizes the stupid one is actually at the other end of the line. And so he dives. Straight down.

My left leg and $23,413.37 hip comes off the ground. Out loud I curse Steve Bowman, knowing that somehow this must be his pet fish about to drown me.

Then Skeet says "Here, put it in your groin."

Will they call them Slout or Tralmon?

The Telegraph over across the pond in the UK is reporting that Japanese scientists have been successful at breeding trout from salmon. What is the ultimate goal of these piscatorial alchemists? They eventually hope to turn mackerel into tuna, thereby assuring a spicy tuna roll in every pot for years to come.
The embryos they produced developed into adult trout of both sexes, capable of producing either trout sperm or eggs. These were then combined to produce healthy trout offspring.
The scientists say the technique could be used to preserve threatened species if traditional methods such as reducing fishing, breeding in captivity or restoring their habitat fail.
However, the real target of the work is the bluefin tuna – an important ingredient in Japanese sushi and sashimi.
