Fly Fishing Now Officially Very Cool
We here at Flyfishmagazine are always happy to point out prominent members of society who choose to partake in the sport of fly fishing. I was most pleased to find out that none other than "The Fonz" himself is a devotee of fishing with fur and feather. He goes by his "other" name now, Henry Winkler, but I can assure you that if Fonzie fly fishes it is most definitely the coolest outdoor sport in all the land. Where you ask does the coolest of the cool prefer to wet a line? The Firehole of course!
"In Montana, near West Yellowstone, there's a lodge called Firehole. I go with my wife, and we fly-fish for trout. I think it holds 22 people at once. The chef's name is Bruno, and he's from France — and that's all you need to know about dinner."
Just how hardcore a fly fisher could someone who's day job credits include actor, director, and producer actually be, you dare ask?
"I fish sometimes from 8:30 a.m. to 8 or 9 at night. One of my greatest achievements on this planet is that I caught a brown trout by sonar alone. I heard him slurping and eating, and I couldn't see him, and I cast for him and reeled him in. And I said thank you and put him back in the river."
I say it now life is truly good for all fly fishers when we count Mr. Winkler among our numbers. Mr. Winkler if you ever plan a trip to North Carolina look me up. I would count it a great honor to don my leather fishing vest and join you waist deep in the river of your choosing.
Out of respect for the sport and the Fonz I will refrain from making any comments about how he could just snap his fingers and cause all the female trout in the river to jump into his waiting creel. I also did not say "Aaaaaaaayyyy" at any time during this posting.
Here is the link to the LA Times article that broke this news.
