Feds Fix Fines For Fishkill
EPA officials fined the Connecticut State Department of Public Works $12,500 for spilling 5000 gallons of heating oil in to a trout stream, killing hundreds of fish. The town of Newton was fined $5,000 and gave Trout Unlimited $10,000 as part of a settlement for a slightly smaller oil spill that also occurred in 2005.
"Trout Unlimited plans to sample aquatic insect life in Deep Brook over the next few years, using half of the money given by the town. That could help determine the long-lasting impact of both oil spills, said Joe Hovious, chairman of the local Trout Unlimited chapter."
