This quote stood out when I ran across an article on GoErie.com that asked Executive types about their worst ever holiday gifts.
"Emilia DiMenco, executive vice president at Harris Bank: "Someone once gave me a fly-fishing pole, complete with a tackle box full of flies. I hate fishing"
This has to be the best explanation we have heard yet for the American financial crisis.
How about it fly fishing executive or non executive types? What was your worst holiday gift ever? Your best?
The Editorial Trophy wife will most likely weigh in right away with a comment about the clothes steamer we got her for Christmas a few years back (we won't do that again). Feel free to leave your comments anonymously to protect the "innocent."

2007 Gift Guide Part II: Paisley's Picks

We continue our coverage of FlyFishMagazine.com's 2007 Holiday Gift Guide with today's picks from our tail water editor and Fly Fishing DIY Project guru, Jeff Paisley.
Jeff must be feeling the chill at his home in the Carolina mountains as two of his picks from this year have to do directly with staying warm while fishing his favorite tailraces. Like all good fly anglers he finishes his list big with a shiny new Tibor fly reel. Click here to see what gear caught Jeff's eye for this Christmas season.
Stay tuned through out the week for more gear guides from the staff of FlyFishMagazine.com.
In case you missed it here is a link to Jay Moore's picks.
Just for kicks here's what the gang picked in 2006.

Cyber Monday: FlyFishMagazine's 2007 Holiday Gift Guide

The resulting list of gear has either become one of the most exclusive compendiums of holiday gift giving goodness in the fly fishing industry or a great tool for showing our wives and loved ones what we want for Christmas.
We start things off this year with gear picks from Jay "The Salomon Wrestler" Moore. Jay's picks run the gamut from limited edition Orvis trout knives to tropical shirts by Tommy Bahama. At the end of this email he dropped the real bombshell. It seems that our middle Tennessee piscatorial guru has himself been hooked and reeled in and is getting married in early 2008. Congratulations to Jay and Tammy!
View Jay's gear picks via FlyFishMagazine.com's 2007 Gift Guide.
Stay tuned for more picks from the other FlyFishMagazine.com editors later this week.

Saks of money...

Saks Fifth Avenue announces an upscale gift for the angler who has everything:
"Sun, Sea, and Spices. Travel to Bora Bora and go on a deep sea fishing adventure with world-renowned chef Jean Georges Vongerichten, who will then prepare a VIP dinner at his Lagoon Restaurant. You will also get a private tour of Robert Wan's Black Pearl Museum. First class airfare for two people, a night in Tahiti and deluxe accommodations at the luxurious St. Regis Resort, Bora Bora all included. Cost: $115,000, of which $5,000 will be donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital."
Just in case this is a bit out of your economic reach I will again extend my offer to take wealthy anglers fly fishing, give you a private tour of the FlyFishMagazine Ancient and Inexpensive Tackle Museum / Garage, while providing a shore lunch complete with your choice of tinned lunch meats. For the deluxe packages we replace the Vienna's with slawdog's from the convenience store of your choosing.

Dad's Day...

is just around the corner. Sure he might have conned you into spending that entire summer digging out a dirt bank in the back yard so he could build you " a mondo-cool club house / tool shed" but he did teach you everything you know about fishing. Time to go shopping!

Also we wish to point out that if it is a purveyor of fine mondo-cool bug throwing apparel that you seek, check out our pals at reel pure. They have great one of a kind gear and a fly fishing attitude to match.
