A recent press release from a North Carolina real estate developer promotes their efforts to restore a trout stream on the grounds of their exclusive community known as Cielo Falls located near Boone, North Carolina. They have hired a stream restoration company to turn the now silt choked trout stream back into an excellent private fishery for those who purchase homes in the community.
Two points come to mind when I read this:
1) Trout have value. Real estate developers do not add things to their developments that do not make them money. You can't really fault them for this. After all, if they have the capital to invest and it adds value to their holdings, why not?
2) The trend of high end development shrouded in the guise of conservation continues.
