Meet Ladies At The Beach
The Star News Online of Wilmington has an article about catching ladyfish off of the Carolina coast. Anglers often catch these fish, known as "miniture tarpon" for their scorching runs and leaping acrobatics, by mistake when fishing for other quarry. However, anglers are begining to target these fish specifically.
"Lights can be the key to finding big schools of ladies because they love the nightlife. Any lighted dock has the potential to attract swarms of ladyfish at night. They feed on squid and small baitfish attracted to the lights. Fly fishermen toss dry flies, shrimp patterns and poppers to them. Anglers also cast floating poppers such as the bass fisherman's Hula popper because they work extremely well for catching them at night."
