Hardy fishing purchased by owners of Hot Topic

In other news...storied fly fishing brand Hardy has been purchased by the same people who own teen angst inciting retailer, Hot Topic.   Could a run of fly fishing themed concert tees be very far behind.

Short Film - Tippet

Via Gofundme.  This doesn't sound like your typical fly fishing film.

"Tippet" is a dark comedy/thriller about a young couple's fishing trip that turns into a fight for survival. John, an avid fly fisherman, and his girlfriend, Sarah, are intercepted by two bumbling bank robbers ,who had just escaped a failed heist. An otherwise relaxing vacation turns into a nightmare when the bank robbers aren't in the mood for witnesses.

They are only looking for $700 and if you donate $250 you get a guided fly fishing lesson.  Let's hope it  doesn't turn into research for the film.

Gear: Meet Kayak Monster and the Powered Kayak Dolly

Next week we will be meeting up with some of the original Blue Ridge Fly Fishing Association crew at the Paddlesports Retailer Show.  The purpose of our reunion is to help our buddy Jeff launch his company's new product aimed at making life easier for kayak enthusiasts.

"The Powered Kayak Dolly is designed to allow a single person to easily move a kayak.  It also significantly reduces the amount of time it takes for them to launch or land their boat.  With fully rigged kayaks weighing upwards of 100+   pounds, the Powered Kayak Dolly gives paddlers a competitive advantage on and off the water."

The product itself launches at the show so  this is just a teaser.  Be sure to keep an eye out here and on twitter (@flyfishmagazine) for our coverage.  In the mean time check out their Facebook page and pay particular attention to the  videos that show you how much quicker you can get on and off the water using this new product!

Glory Boats: For that final trip across the river

Our Aunt Connie tipped us off to a final item of outdoor gear for the angler about to make that final journey across the river. Glory Boat's Boat casket.

"Used in funeral services the same way as traditional caskets Glory Boats are compatible with standard burial vaults. The internal dimensions of a Glory Boat allow even the largest individuals to easily fit. The inside of a Glory Boat is softer and more comfortable than traditional caskets. The outside of a Glory Boat is rugged and tough like many of the outdoors enthusiasts who loved spending time on the water in their lives."

No word if they are planning on making a whitewater raft coffin for those who are headed down the rapids, instead of across the river.

Vintage Gear: The Imperial Fish Knife

They don't make them like they used to.  Well when it comes to knives I suppose modern metallurgy really makes them better than back in the day. However, from a style stand point it remains hard to beat this vintage Imperial fish knife.   Do you have a favorite piece of vintage cutlery?
