New Fishing report added - South Holston River, TN

Jeff Paisley, a contributor to Flyfishmagazine.com has provided an updated fishing report from the South Holston River in Tennessee. Back from the Beach

I just returned from Easter weekend at my parent's beach house in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Part of the reason that it is so relaxing is that there is no internet or phone there. Thus the lack of posts to the blog. I did take some time to scope out some possible areas for fly fishing that are off the beaten path(read as: the ones between the house and the outlet mall my wife shopped at) and visited the fly shop at the Bass Pro Shop there. The fly shop is small but the possibilities for fishing look good. Fly fishing at Myrtle Beach seems to be just starting to take off.

A co-worker and fellow fly fisherman just posted news about his recent trip to the Duck River in Normandy, TN. From the sound of it I must find a reason to visit there for a fishing trip soon.

Cabela's has an pretty good deal on a Creek Company ODC Sport Boat (Personal Pontoon boat) at $174.99. It has 840 denier nylon pontoon covers. I noticed that it does not have the anchor pulley on the back and the pontoons are not very turned up on the ends so this boat is for pretty calm water. Fly Fishing Lawyer

I just watched the movie "Anatomy of A Murder" starring Jimmy Stewart. In the movie Jimmy plays a fly fishing country lawyer who seems to tie flies during trials and has a fridge full of fish. The movie has an all star cast including George C. Scott. In addition to the flies, a woman's under garment figures prominently.

Monster Garage Fly Fishing Style

Ok the raft arrived and I unpacked it and spread it out on the lawn. It made the neighbors ask lots of questions since the nearest lake is about 5 miles away from my neighborhood. I told them I was making ready for the coming floods. I am not sure they get my sense of humor yet. Seriously though, looks like a good boat for our purposes. I think the next order of business will be a good high volume pump. My lungs hurt! Paisley is looking into using conduit for the material for a rowing frame. Maybe we can have this thing on the water someday.

I found an interesting web site that offers a free demo of a fly fishing simulation. It looks pretty complex and includes matching the hatch etc. I am going to probably give it a try. It looks like fun ...well as much fun as you can have with a mouse.... (Link)

My fishing buddy Paisley and I just purchased a used 11' 6" Achilles RS116 white water raft that we found on Ebay. It was recently retired from running the Upper Delaware River. Our intentions are to turn it into a boat we can use to fish the Watauga River tail water in Tennessee. To do this we are going to have to build a rowing frame and etc. We are planning a series of articles outlining its transformation for the magazine site. Kind of like a Monster Garage for fly fishermen...
